A lot of people seem to have become unhinged since the election of President Donald Trump. Lies, stupid celebrity comments, stupid social media comments, more lies, and a complete ignorance of the American political system have run rampant. Protests, even ignorant, foolish, protests are part of the system. As long as they aren’t violent, they are even amusing.

Some things on various social media platforms are less than amusing. In case you haven’t guessed, I’m not a big fan of social media. I have a very small Facebook account, with less than a dozen friends. I don’t have a Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat, or anything else account. I find no utility in any of them and much risk of saying something stupid. If you’re employed, there is a good chance for a career limiting comment or even to make it’s way to the Internet before you even realize you’ve said or done something moronic.

Which is what Heather Lowrey found out the hard way.

Here is what she put out on Twitter last week,

“If someone was cruel enough to assassinate MLK, maybe someone will be kind enough to assassinate Trump. #bekind #trump #lovetrumpshate.”

There is a delicious irony in her hashtags. Well, I find it deliciously ironic, others it seems, didn’t.

“Other” included two current employers and one place where she stopped working 10 months ago. The two current, well now ex employers put out statements disavowing MS Lowrey’s comments and firing her. The ex employer made a point of telling the world that she has been an ex employee for 10 months.

Good luck finding a new job MS Lowrey. That’s if you need one.

It seems that the United States Secret Service has taken note of MS Lowrey’s since deleted Tweet and has already had a nice chat with her. Over the course of my career I had a few occasions to work with members of the USSS. Top notch professionals, highly competent, no nonsense at what they do. I’m sure that off duty they have a normal (for public safety) sense of humor. Not so when they are on duty. As MS Lowrey found out about two seconds into the chat.

Some may think that MS Lowrey’s First Amendment Rights were violated here, but that is not the case. You can’t threaten people on line and then claim that it’s freedom of speech.

MS Lowrey had some sort of low level jobs and now she’s out of both them. If you are in EMS or any public job, keep that in mind next time you’re tempted to Tweet some wiseass comment.

The old rule that says, “If it feels good saying it, you’re probably going to regret saying it.” now extends to social media.
