We are now a month post Presidential Election. Most in the media still seem to be stumbling around because Donald Trump is now President Elect Donald Trump.

My regular readers will know that I’m pretty happy with that result. I’ll repeat that Donald Trump was not my first, or second, or even third pick for Republican nominee. Still, he was the nominee and now has won the election.

My son was what we would call an “early adopter”. From the time that Mr. Trump announced in 2015 that he was going to run, my son was on board. Interestingly, right after the third debate, my son called to tell me that the election was over and Clinton was going to win. I disagreed with him and told him that the election was no where near over and that Trump was very likely to win.

He should have listened to the old man.

Even though I’m not a political scientist, I do follow politics. Maybe I follow politics a bit too much, but that’s a different story. I kept hearing and reading stories that Hillary Clinton was going to win by double digits, but I didn’t see much of that reflected in the polls. Sure, there were some polls that showed her up by 10 or 12 points, but they were all a day or so after Trump said something the media was hyping as the end of his campaign. Amazingly, after a week or so, no matter how much of a lead Clinton had, the numbers returned to a 3-5 point difference. Trump was somehow staying within striking distance.

Political scientists and others are going to spend years examining every aspect of this election to try to figure out what happened. Analysis has already begun, along with the insults. Dopey politicians are insulting the people that they thought were going to vote for Clinton, but who ended up either staying home or voting for Trump. I’m not sure that insulting people that you want to vote for you four years from now is a winning strategy, but I might be wrong.

The last of the futile and frankly stupid challenges to the results in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania have now been terminated. I don’t know if it was cynicism or just frustration that brought the recounts about, but whatever that silliness is behind us.

This election broke all the rules, and the President elect is continuing to break rules even before he’s in office. Some of that is good, actually most of that looks to be good. We’re going to see a change in both internal and external policies.

Will this work? I think so, but the future is generally unpredictable.

One thing is sure. It’s going to be a very interesting four years.
