A Republic, If We Can Keep It

This is my only post on the Presidential election campaign.

Really. It’s pointless to post about this election because it’s so screwed up. Neither candidate is the person I’d choose to put in the White House, but they’re the ones we’re stuck with. The two Republicans that I hoped would end up with the nomination didn’t make it to through the primaries and so they aren’t an option. At least not this time around.

There are metric tonnes of crap being thrown out by both parties and plenty of lies to go around. Here is a simple way to pick the person to vote for.

This is the oath of office of the President of the United States of America.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Pick the person who you think will come the closest to fulfilling that oath and vote for him or her.

I’ll leave you with this story from the founding of the Republic.

The response is attributed to BENJAMIN FRANKLIN—at the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, when queried as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation—in the notes of Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland’s delegates to the Convention.

“A lady asked Dr. Franklin Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy. A republic replied the Doctor if you can keep it.”

I’d much prefer a republic to whatever the alternative is.

After a long career as a field EMS provider, I'm now doing all that back office stuff I used to laugh at. Life is full of ironies, isn't it? I still live in the Northeast corner of the United States, although I hope to change that to another part of the country more in tune with my values and beliefs. I still write about EMS, but I'm adding more and more non EMS subject matter. Thanks for visiting.

    WHO?

I would love to hear what spineless, traitorous, complicit POS you would consider to be your optimal choice.

Donald Trump is a piece of crap. I would dearly love to hear what republican you think would be a better choice.

    • I was purposely vague, so as to avoid a long, ultimately pointless argument. I’m content to leave it at that. I will say that the main attraction of Trump was his willingness to break the rules. Sadly, he not only had to run against Clinton, he had to run against several sore loser Republicans (my early favorite was not one), and the leftist media. The last of which worked relentlessly to make the trivial important.
