I don’t have anything profound to say about the 13th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States of America.
I can’t let the day pass without noting it, noting that we are in a worse position vis a vis Islamic Terrorism.
Nor can I let the day pass without noting that Islam is our enemy. Harang me not with fairy tales of peaceful Muslims, because they appear to be as rare as sightings of the Loch Ness Monster.
Liberals (and some so called conservatives) laughed at President George W. Bush when he spoke of a long war against the foe. The problem was that he got that exactly right, but he told us things many people didn’t want to hear.
Especially those so called elites who said that if only we’d show them compassion and understanding, they’d love us and all would be well.
I won’t even deign to mention the so called libertarians that thing that, like the bumble bees when we were kids, if we just leave them alone they won’t bother us. After all, it’s our international adventurism that caused all this.
Ignore the words of the leaders of Al Qaeda, ISIS (never to be referred to as ISIL on this blog), the leader of Hezbollah, the Ayatollahs in Iran, and the Muslim Brotherhood. None of the really mean it when they say that they will destroy the west and establish a caliphate on earth.
Pay more attention to Ray Rice and his problems, the death of Joan Rivers, one of THE ROYALS is having a baby, and of course don’t forget the Kardashians.
Forget that the top adviser to the current POTUS was born and mostly raised in Iran and that she spoke Persian and French before she spoke English.
After all, going to war in Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention a dozen or so places that have not been named, was a mistake.
While you’re at it practice forgetting New York City, Washington, DC, Chicago, Boston, and San Francisco. There is a pretty reasonable chance that someone will set off a nuclear bomb in one of more of those cities before the end of this decade.
That probably won’t keep you awake at night, but I’d be willing to bet that there are senior level people in the US military and intelligence communities that wake up in a cold sweat many nights worrying about just that.
Finally, don’t worry that the US Army is at it’s smallest size since 1940. That the US Navy is at it’s smallest size since 1917. That the US Air Force has the oldest fleet of planes of any major nation. That the CIA has fewer case officers than it did during the Carter years.
Don’t think about the fragile state of the US economy and the $17 Trillion dollar debt that we now have, most of it added by the current POTUS. What that means is that it will be hard, if not impossible, to build up the military rapidly when it becomes necessary. Not if, but when.
When? Yes, when. Russia and China are expanding their military forces as quickly as they can. Both nations are buying ships from other countries, as well as producing planes, some using stolen American technology. Russian bombers are pretty routinely probing US and Canadian air defenses.
Isolationism didn’t work when it took weeks to cross the ocean, there is no reason to think that it will work better when planes can cross the oceans in hours, ships in mere days, and missiles in a few minutes.
Not to mention our porous southern border. The unchecked immigration of people from South America would be a disaster in it’s own right, but that’s the least of it. We have no idea who is coming across that border, where they are going, or what they will do when they get there. Even if there was no terrorist risk, just the influx of non vaccinated people coming into the country promises to introduce diseases that haven’t been seen here in decades. Even without a risk to people in the country legally, there is the risk of a disease induced panic that will consume a lot of medical resources, resources which we probably don’t have.
Most of all ignore my rantings, because it’s not like Islamic Terrorists have ever targeted US property in the US or abroad. That’s just crazy talk.
Have a happy and safe September 11, 2014.
