The Obama administration stunned New York’s delegation Thursday, dropping the bombshell news that it does not support funding the 9/11 health bill.

The state’s two senators and 14 House members met with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius just hours before President Obama implored in his speech to the nation for Congress to come together and deliver a government that delivers on its promises to the American people.

For those who don’t know, and that’s most people in general, many of the New Yorkers and others who raced to the World Trade Center to help after the September 11, 2001 attack have become ill with long term, eventually fatal, illnesses. A number of them have already died and many more will. This bill would set aside funds for treatment and survivor benefits. The Obama Administration has opposed increasing the funding.

WASHINGTON – The White House revealed Thursday night it boosted funding for ailing 9/11 responders – pumping more money into the treatment program than ever before.

Team Obama disclosed the cash only after outraging New York lawmakers with the news that the administration won’t back a permanent plan to help the dying Ground Zero responders.

The White House confirmed it will more than double the budget for treating ill responders to $150 million in 2011.

The charitable explanation is that the people in the Obama Administration responsible for this stupid decision reconsidered after listening to the concerns of the New York delegation. The not so charitable one is that along with the stupid decision to have criminal court trials in New York City for the September 11 planners, this decision pushed the New York delegation over the edge and they threatened to stop supporting the Administration. Which promptly did a quick about face.

If this is how they treat their friends and allies, imagine how they treat their enemies and those they aren’t afraid of?
