For years most gun owners have scoffed at the myths perpetuated by the various gun control advocates. We’ve accused them of using slanted or even made up statistics, lying about the dangers of gun ownership, and spreading hysteria. One of our favorite targets was their meme that people who owned guns placed themselves in danger because their guns would only be taken from them and turned on them when criminals broke into their houses.
Well, I was wrong and they were right. It’s absolutely true that gun owners are endangered when home invasions happen.
Well, sort of.
With Kellie Hoehn clinging to the weapon’s muzzle, her husband tackled the man who held the shotgun. She knocked the intruder in the head with a jar candle, giving her husband a chance to wrest the shotgun.
You know you’re having a bad day if you’re an armed bad guy and your intended victim takes your shotgun away and kills you with it.
Mrs. Hoehn had the right idea,
Kellie Hoehn told The Dallas Morning News that she screamed at her husband, “Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him.
Mr. Hoehn only shot him, him being Dakota Scott Benoit, twice, but it was enough. Mr. Benoit is an ex robber.
It being Texas, neither Mr. nor Mrs. Hoehn have been arrested and prosecution is unlikely according to police investigators.
In medieval terms, Mr Benoit and his accomplice (also shot, but not dead) were hoist by their own petard.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoehn and their children were not harmed, which is the best news of all.
Remember folks, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
You’re absolutely correct – the people who advocate Gun Control are right… the intruder was not in trouble until he lost control of his gun. QED – all guns must be carefully controlled to prevent personal injury.
It sounds to me that Mr. Hoehn had very good control of the weapon. He hit he was aiming at.
The homeowners were well within their rights to defend themselves with lethal force, especially when faced with armed robbers. And frankly I’m glad the dude is dead. They’re a lot more annoying when they survive…we had one here who got shot in the face with a .357 when she was breaking into a house, and man was she whiny…she had no concept of “just desserts” or “you’re lucky to be alive.”
Being shot with the shotgun was the cause of death, but terminal embarrassment may be a significant contributing cause.
I agree that Mr. Hoehn had control of the weapon… but the perp LOST control of the weapon first.. and we all know that criminals have to be coddled and protected, so the laws have to ensure that they maintain control of their guns…otherwise things like this happen.
There really should be a law that protects a criminal from the consequences of his own folly. Hoehn should be charged with interfering with a criminal in the course of practicing his profession. Or something like that. How else is a guy to make a dishonest days work?
How else to make a dishonest living?Politics.
