Uber says no guns in cars, changing policy
Uber, the ride-hailing company based in San Francisco, has reworked its legal policies to include a ban on firearm possession by its drivers and passengers.
“We seek to ensure that everyone using the Uber digital platform…feels safe and comfortable,” the new policy reads. “Uber and its affiliates therefore prohibit possessing firearms of any kind in a vehicle.” Those found violating the rule may lose access to Uber’s services.
It’s their service, they can do what they want. I don’t use them and didn’t plan to even before this decision. Frankly, I’ve heard enough stories of sketchy Uber drivers that I would definitely want to carry a gun if I were riding with one. The only real advantage to taxis is that they licensed by some government entity, so I have some level of recourse if something goes wrong. Oh, and their rates are set by the government so they don’t engage in “surge pricing” when demand is higher.
I know, that makes me some sort of statist tool or something.
Even at that, when I’m in a taxi in an unfamiliar city, I have my GPS app open and I’m following along the route. Just paranoid, I guess.
On the other hand, if I drove for Uber I’d want to carry a gun as well. In fact, I’m willing to bet that any drivers who do carry will continue to do so and ignore the rule. If they do have to use a firearm to protect themselves, they’ll at least by alive to find another job when Uber decides that dead victims are preferable to live survivors.
Uber’s chief competitor Lyft has had a similar policy for a longer time, so they aren’t really an alternative.
I don’t get the left’s fascination with turning people in dangerous professions into helpless potential victims. Whether it’s a Democrat controlled entity or a private company, they all seem to think that disarming people will make them more safe.
I’ll post this picture as a reminder that you can’t trust the government to protect you. Sometimes the government is the biggest threat around.
