I took my bike out for a ride earlier today. The weather is turning very nice and today was warm, but with a nice cooling breeze, and no rain. “Nice cooling breeze” is an understatement. The wind was fast enough that it was a significant force which I was riding against. Even worse, no matter what direction I turned, the wind was there. North, south, east, or west, didn’t matter, there was wind. I know I live in the northeast home to weird weather, but really, what’s up with that?

Speaking of weather, I always check it before I head out on a ride. I hate riding in the rain. I’ve done it, but I don’t like it. Usually I’ve done it when I got caught in an unexpected shower because if it’s raining or I’m certain it’s going to rain, I just don’t go out. I used to ride in the rain when I was assigned to a bike at work, but I had wet weather gear and I wasn’t constantly riding as I do when I’m doing a recreational ride. Which is not to say I liked it, but getting paid overtime to do it took a lot of the unpleasantness out of the situation.

Since weather forecasting seems to be no more accurate than it was in the 1970s, I’m very skeptical of weather reports. I’ve developed my own algorithm for evaluating the chance of rain based on the forecast. It works something like this,

Weather Forecast                  Real World

0% chance of rain                     10% chance of rain,

10% chance of rain                   30-40% chance of rain

20% chance of rain                  50% chance of rain

50% chance of rain                 100% chance of rain

Also, those percentages are not the likelihood of rain. Rather, that’s the percentage of time during my ride that it will be raining.

Well, it’s not like they can predict the weather, I guess.

Speaking of predictions. Here’s one I won’t make. The outcome of the Tom Brady/New England Patriots scandal. I have an idea of how I think that will end, but won’t share it. Which isn’t why I mention this. I have two thoughts about the proceedings so far.

First, if I were one of the best athletes in the most watched sport in the US, there is no way I would give my phone to anyone during an investigation. I’m not a forensic expert, but based on what I’ve seen and heard so far the investigation was into the activities of three people. Two of those people have surrendered their phones and if Brady had communication with either of them it would show on their phones. As such, there doesn’t appear to be probative value to going through his phone no matter what conditions Ted Wells says he offered. Tom Brady is famous, his wife is anything is more so. They make a ton of money and know a lot of famous people. Considering how leaky the NFL security people have been so far (or someone in the NFL league office), I’m confident that some juicy non football related gossip would leak out and be in some mindless website or show that caters to mindless audiences.

Second, Tom Brady did himself no good having his agent represent him during the investigation. That’s like having the lawyer that did your real estate closing represent you when the police come to chat with you about a potential criminal matter. He should have done then what he did now. Hire a lawyer that specializes in this sort of thing to represent you. It won’t be cheap, but it will save a lot of aggravation and money down the road.

It’s gong to be a very interesting show watching what Jeffrey Kessler does during the appeals process. Almost as interesting as watching football games.

That’s it for today. Tomorrow I’ll try to put up a post about nitroglycerin in treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.
