Today is Texas Independence Day. 179 years ago, Texans declared independence from Mexico and became it’s own country.
The revolution had already been underway for months, and Mexican troops had already laid siege to The Alamo in San Antonio. Four days after Texas declared independence, Mexican troops took The Alamo.
On April 21, Texan troops defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto. Santa Anna was captured, but the Texans didn’t execute him, although they certainly would have been justified in doing so.
That pretty much ended the war and guaranteed Texas’ independence from Mexico.
Enjoy the day, my friends in Texas.
Eat some BBQ for me.
