A Ban On Carry-On Bags? Travelers Say ‘No Way’
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) –Could there ever really be a ban on carry-on bags when you fly?
According to a report by National Public Radio, a ban on carry-on luggage was discussed by U.S. counter-terrorism officials.
Interestingly, to me at least, I couldn’t find anything on the NPR website that referred to this. The TSA, as usual, was completely opaque on the subject.
The video is not bad, but notice at the end the people interviewed said that if it was safety, they’d go along with it.
I take this to be a trial balloon. One of the lead variety.
I think that if the TSA tried this during the busiest travel time of the year, it would kill the airline industry.
A lot of people travel for business and many of them work during the slack time of flying to their destination.
Families traveling with small children often bring portable DVD players and a couple of movies to keep the kids quiet during the flight.
Other people, like me, play music on their smarter than me phones to while away the time.
Imagine the chaos a complete ban on carry on baggage would create.
As if I want to check my computer, smarter than me phone, and any other electronics. I get nervous enough that my checked firearms might be pilfered and they are locked in a secure box that is cabled to the inside of my luggage. I have no doubt that it would be a very Merry Christmas for some sticky fingered TSA personnel or larcenous baggage handlers.
The TSA has been sold to the traveling public as the barrier that keeps said flying public safe from terrorist. This, despite the fact that the TSA has caught not one single terrorist during it’s entire existence. It’s harassed Medal of Honor winners flying with their Medal. It’s groped teenage girls and broken their expensive medical equipment. It’s even groped and humiliated grandmothers flying to another state for medical treatment. It just hasn’t caught any terrorists.
It’s also wasted billions of dollars on technology that doesn’t work. Don’t worry though, any terrorists that might slip through will probably get cancer anyway.
But not any terrorists. Note that while some of the items confiscated might be used by terrorists, none of the people caught with these things were charged with terrorism.
Now the TSA tells us what we’ve known all along. They are useless at their purported mission.
In a written statement, a TSA spokesperson said, “DHS will continue to adjust its security measures to ensure the highest levels of aviation security without unnecessary disruption to travelers.”
Define “unnecessary”.
Other, of course, than the entirety of the TSA. If they can’t find potential bombs in carry on baggage, every piece of which they inspect and sometimes tear apart, why would we expect that they can find them in checked baggage?
That’s what you call a rhetorical question right there folks because we know the answer.
All that money, all those highly trained (for two weeks) government employees, all the delays, the hassles, the pain in the ass searches, the stupid questions, and all for nothing. Not one bit better than the minimum wage security guards that used to do this function.
No doubt this bit of security theater was intended to get people upset so that when whatever new and useless rules do come out will seem mild in comparison.
They’re throwing trial balloons out there…
