Eisenhower Would Understand

0

In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.

Dwight D. Eisenhower

Apparently some EMS people in Boston took that to heart. Which is why the death toll at the Marathon bombing in April wasn’t higher. Given that the Boston Marathon is an extremely high profile event with the potential for a lot of medical incidents, there were a lot of EMS units and personnel in the area. Some people would call that luck, I’d call it realizing that this was not only a sporting event, but a target and planning accordingly. If you plan and train enough, when something goes wrong, you have the ability to react and respond.

Eisenhower would not only understand, but he’d appreciate the effort and response.

18 minutes to clear over 100 patients from the scene of a bomb attack. That my friends is training and planning paying off.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.
