Navy SEAL Team Six member killed rescuing doctor from Afghanistan
A U.S. official has identified to Fox News the member of the Navy SEAL Team Six — the same special ops group used for the raid on Usama bin Laden’s compound — that was killed during a weekend rescue mission in Afghanistan that freed an American doctor abducted by the Taliban outside of Kabul five days ago.
Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque, 28, of Monroeville, Pa., died of combat related injuries suffered Dec. 8, while supporting operations near Kabul, Afghanistan. Checque was stationed in Virginia Beach where he was assigned to a Naval Special Warfare unit.
Mexican singer Jenni Rivera feared dead in plane crash
Mexico’s music world mourned Jenni Rivera, the U.S.-born singer presumed killed in a plane crash whose soulful voice and openness about her personal troubles had made her a Mexican-American superstar.
Authorities have not confirmed her death, but Rivera’s relatives in the U.S. say they have few doubts that she was on the Learjet 25 that disintegrated on impact Sunday in rugged territory in Nuevo Leon state in northern Mexico.
“My son Lupillo told me that effectively it was Jenni’s plane that crashed and that everyone on board died,” her father, Pedro Rivera told dozens of reporters gathered in front of his Los Angeles-area home. “I believe my daughter’s body is unrecognizable.”
They will both be overshadowed by whatever stupid thing Lohan does this week
Both are sad, easy answer, the singer… dammit…
Well, I’ve already heard of #1, but never heard about #2, so…
(Around here, the overshadowing story is “nutbar kills two in mall, including self”.)
Of course the mall shooting is the #1 story. It shouldn’t be because making it a big story only encourages copy cats. I won’t get into the whole “If more law abiding citizens were armed…” debate.
