Blasts and Gun Attack in Norway; 7 Dead
OSLO — Powerful explosions shook central Oslo on Friday afternoon, blowing out the windows of several government buildings, including one housing the office of the Norwegian prime minister. The state television broadcaster, citing the police, said 7 people were killed and at least 15 injured; a spokeswoman for the prime minister, Jens Stoltenberg, said he was “safe and not hurt.”
Deadly explosions shattered windows on Friday at the government headquarters in Oslo, which includes the prime minister’s office. A spokeswoman for Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said he was safe.
Shortly after the explosions, which appeared to be a bomb attack, a man dressed as a police officer opened fire on a summer camp for young members of the governing Labor Party on the island of Utoya about 25 miles northwest of the city, and wounded at least five, a Norwegian security official said.
“The situation’s gone from bad to worse,” said Runar Kvernen, spokesman for the National Police Directorate under the Ministry of Justice and Police, adding that most of the children at the camp were 15 and 16 years old.
Apparently appeasing Islamic terrorists only incites them to step up their attacks. Who’d have thought that?
A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism. The message said the attack was a response to Norwegian forces’ presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. “
And as it turns out, they falsely claimed responsibility for this part of the attack.
It runs under the radar of most Americans, but Scandinavia has a large and radical Muslim immigrant population. Steps by the various governments to appease this population have only lead to more aggression.
I have no doubt that Vidkun Quisling would be so proud.
OK, so I was wrong. I went with the odds and it turns out, or so far it seems that way, that this is the outlier that no one can predict. I would say that it’s odd that he copied the same type of tactics (bombs and shootings of innocents) that the Islamofascists use, but it really isn’t that odd since they are effective in garnering media attention. Which it seems this guy wants.
“Fundamntalist Christian”? That remains to be seen. “Right wing nut”? Again, remains to be seen.
Sadly Islamic fundamentalist is still the way to bet in future attacks. Which of course there will be too many more of.
As to the post title, it seems that part of his rage is based on government appeasement of Islam, so ironically the title still fits, even if nothing else does.
Not well, obviously, and more interestingly the MSM here is NOT saying anything about the perps…
It’s those pesky Lutherans I tell you! Even the authorities in Norway are soft soaping the identify of the suspect. “Norwegian citizen”.
Wow TOTWTYTR!
You’re so right:

This dude is the WORST type of Islamist Jhadist – the home-grown Christian fundamentalist type!
(Snark off..)
You jumped the gun on this post, the initial pictures spoke much more of Oklahoma City than World Trade Center. I was a Paramedic in OKC 4/19/95 and the initial reaction there was to blame Islamists, later so sadly disproved – you can NEVER trust the media’s initial analysis
These current images, especially those from Oslo, are eerily similar to OKC. The looks on the faces of the responders is bringing back vivid memories – “what the hell just happened? This isn’t supposed to happen here” is writ large.
Good luck to them –
Mike, it’s still the way to bet. McVeigh didn’t invoke Christ in his attack, nor has this guy. McVeigh’s motivation was revenge for the Waco incident. What was this guy’s motivation? I’m sure it will come out.
As I said to Max, when something like this happens, it’s automatic to think Islamic terrorism because of their track record. Only when it’s Islamic terrorism, we’re told not to jump to conclusions that religion was involved. Apparently when the perpetrator is Christian, that doesn’t apply, does it?
Christian, right-wing, TERRORIST… Not muslim.
Although he’s being tag as a Christian right wing terrorist, we don’t know how much Christian plays into it. And if he is exactly that, he’s an outlier as I note. Keep that in mind after the next terror attack.
