I’ve seen this story on a few blogs, including Instapundit, but it hasn’t hit the national main stream media other than Fox News. Still this story doesn’t seem to have drawn all that much interest. I think that’s most unfortunate because potentially this is an extremely important issue.
In an interview with the Assistant Port Director for the Port of San Diego a local TV reporter asked if any Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) have been found in the harbor. Al Hallor, the Assistant Port Director and an officer with US Customs and Border Enforcement says that none have been found in the port, but that “partner agencies” have found some WMD materials in the San Diego area. At this point the Public Information Officer jumps in in an apparent attempt to keep the public from getting information. The PIO promised more information, which apparently took 23 days to come up with.
Here is the raw video from the San Diego TV station.
The Department of Homeland Security later released a statement denying that any WMD material has been found on US soil.
Personally, I’m skeptical about this. The denial that is. Remember that a while back DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano refused to use the word “terrorist”? In fact that was a mere two years ago, but her tune has changed lately. In fact she used it a several times in a recent interview. It appears that the nature of the threat has changed, with more of a focus on “home grown” terrorists such as were behind the bombings on the London Underground back in 2007 and have attempted or completed terrorist attacks here in the US. None of the US attacks have involved WMDs, at least not yet, but it’s only a matter of time.
I think something is imminent, but I don’t know if the federal government knows enough to tell the American public about it. I also don’t know if they know enough to stop the attack and arrest or kill the attackers.
That worries me and it should worry you too.
