Happy New Year

6

Slightly belated New Year’s greetings. I’ve been laid low by some sort of flu like illness and haven’t felt like sitting at the computer today.  From what Ambulance Driver wrote a few days ago, I think I have the same thing. I’ve heard of computer viruses, but this is ridiculous. I just read his post and I get the same thing as he has. Sheesh. I had to cancel my plans for New Year’s Eve, which were for a quiet night home with the Mrs. and a couple of friends. I repaired to bed early and watched some of the Three Stooges Marathon on a local channel. Today consisted of lying in bed and watching the Three Stooges Marathon on American Movie Classics. Not only did I get to watch continuous episodes, but I also know which bottom feeding TV lawyers specialize in which maladies, know all about how to get a free glucometer if I’m on Medicare, and saw Dr. Joyce Brothers tell me about the benefits of one of the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” telephone systems. Oh yeah, I can buy $2.00 bills for a bargain price of $10.00. I’m starting to wonder what the hell demographic I’m falling into to when I see these commercials on stations I watch. On the bright side it’s an incentive to get better quickly so I can do other things.

Back to bed for me now. More New Year’s blogging when I feel better.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.

  1. bugger, now i’m reading it! I refuse to get the flu though .. stuff needs doing.

Hope you’re feeling better soon – and that 2011 is a wonderful year for you.

  2. My husband and I both came down with some wierd gastro-intestinal bug on Christmas Eve that left him couch-bound and vomitting 13 times in 12 hours. After we recovered, it jumped to my brother, sister-in-law, and little sister. Methinks my mother-in-law may still be miffed at me for missing Christmas morning (Chia Pet went, I couldn’t summon up the energy after barely sleeping the night before) but I thought I would be courteous and not risk spreading it to her.

    Get better soon!

    • We had that pleasurable experience right after Thanksgiving. Sick as a dog for about 18 hours and then it was gone. This was much different, being all upper respiratory. Last night at 2000, I was making plans to see a doctor just as soon as I got into work. By 2245 when I got up to go in to work, the fever and stuffed sinuses were gone. As the night went on at work, I kept feeling better. Now, other than an occasional sniffle, it’s all gone. Weird. And yes, you were courteous, because she doesn’t want to catch that stomach thing, whatever it was.
