Roger Clemons has been indicted by  a federal grand jury for lying to Congress about his use of steroids. A couple of thoughts strike me here. First, I don’t want Congress or any part of the federal government messing around with something as important as Major League Baseball. That’s serious stuff and I doubt anyone in Congress is smart enough to figure it out. That goes for the NFL and NCAA football too. Leave it alone.

Second, think about the charge Lying TO Congress? How about Lying BY Congress? Lying to Congress should not be a crime, but lying by Congress should be. Of course my guess is that we would have to put all 435 of them in prison if lying by Congress were a crime.

By the way, lying to the FBI should not be a crime either. That’s just a cheap way to get an indictment when there is no evidence that a crime has been committed. It’s a way to justify spending thousands or millions of dollars investigating some high profile political crime and coming up empty. The answer can’t be that there is no crime, it has to be that the suspects were lying. What a crock.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.

  1. I can’t help but agree more. I’d rather then spend their time trying to fix something actually broken… especially if it’s something they broke.

  2. I don’t know if the question is whether we could indict most congresscritters or whether we should indict most congresscritters.
