James McKenna, a Republican has announced that he is running against incumbent Attorney General Martha Coakley in this falls election. You remember Martha, she’s the one who thought that because she was a Democrat, she was guaranteed succession to “Ted Kennedy’s” US Senate Seat. Only a snot nosed Republican State Senator named Scott Brown decided that maybe it wasn’t “Ted Kennedy’s seat” but “the people’s seat” and ran a great campaign. So, poor Martha got to stay here in Massachusetts and be Attorney General.
This time, even though she had no real opponent until now, she seems to be running a real campaign.
I don’t know James McKenna personally, but I’ll give a plug to anyone that’s running against a liberal incumbent Attorney General who has shown disdain for the will of the voters.
Here is his web page, Jim for AG, which is under development.
Political competition is good for the body politic. It’s time for Democrats in Massachusetts to stop taking political victory for granted. It’s time for Republicans to emerge from the shadows and work to change the balance of power in this state. It’s time to toss out the incumbents.
