It’s Not Over Until It’s Over

Like JayG, I don’t think that this is the end of the Republic. Unlike my good friend, I’m not as pessimistic about the anger, no rage, of a good portion of the electorate. Americans don’t give up, we fight. Whether it’s a foreign enemy or a domestic one, we fight. And that’s what the Democrats, led by President Feckless have done, declare war on the American taxpayer. The ones that pay the bills for all of the social engineering programs, and everything else, that politicians tell us we need to be a decent society.

I see that, the footing the bill part, coming to an end. No one, and I mean no one, I know is not feeling the pinch of this bad economy. Despite the Democrats trying, with too much success at first, to blame the GOP and President Bush, the truth is the President Feckless and his cronies in the Congress have made the recession much worse. Much as FDR made the Depression worse all those years ago.

Although the reliably liberal LA Times might be trying to spin a racist angle on this story Revenge Of The White Men, I think that they have the essence correct. I know a number of people who were fed up with President Bush and the GOP, whether it be because of the economy or the War Against the Islamic Fascists, but for whatever reason they bought Obama’s hype and voted for “Hope and Change”. Well, they’ve seen the changes and many seem to have lost hope.

It won’t be until 2012 that voters can punish Obama, but they can, as voters have in the past, punish the Democrats in the fall of 2010. I think they will, and it won’t be just white men, it will be people of both sexes and all races. Once people start to feel the negative effects of the increased costs of this health care debacle, they will vote against all sorts of Democrat incumbents.

I expect that companies like Caterpillar start to off shore jobs to avoid the huge increases in taxes and health insurance costs, people will not just be angry, they’ll be infuriated. Not at the companies, at politicians that got us into this mess.

I expect that people who never had much interest in politics, who never donated to campaigns in the past, who never worked for campaigns in the past, will become motivated and active.

I expect a very bad election night 2010 for the Democrats.

I just hope that’s not too late.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.

  1. Americans don't give up, we fight. Whether it's a foreign enemy or a domestic one, we fight. There aren't enough Americans left to make a difference.

  2. I'm not so pessimistic. I think most people pay little or no attention to the political process until something motivates them to. This is a great motivator and I see a huge middle class backlash coming. Once the Democrats lose the middle class, it's all over for them. Now, if the Stupid Party can only be smart enough to not screw it up. Yeah, I know.

  3. This is a great motivator and I see a huge middle class backlash coming. Once the Democrats lose the middle class, it's all over for them.[sigh]I hope you're right. But I've been watching conservatives make similar predictions for more than twenty years now. And for twenty years I've watched those predictions be wrong.EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.For twenty years I've watched politicians con the voters with propaganda so simplistic that an infant should be able to see through it. For twenty years I've watched politicians tell voters they can deficit-spend forever with no consequences. And for twenty years I've watched the voters fall for it.EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.Most important, for twenty years I've watched liberal politicians get caught in scandal after scandal, corruption after corruption, and never pay any price for it either in court or at the ballot box. I no longer have any faith in the intelligence of the American voter. I've concluded that the average voter is stupid, simpleminded, shortsighted, and completely unable to tell the difference between reality and propaganda. They have the IQ of a sheep, the attention span of a goldfish, and the backbone of a worm. I don't think this outrage will last one month, much less six. Come campaign time, the fascists will claim that this bill has been a success, and the stupid sheep voters will swallow it, just like they've swallowed every other lie liberals have told them over the last half century. That's what I expect to happen. because that's what always happens. Liberal fascists control the media, and the message, and the ballot boxes, and the voter rolls. What reason can you give me for believing that this time, things will be different? When I turn on my radio or TV and see a Special Report about the fascist politicians being assassinated, and/or their homes and offices being firebombed, then I'll believe there's a real change in the air.

  4. Please detail for us exactly how and by how much your taxes have increased under the present administration.

  5. Since we're still working pretty much under the tax policy of the Bush Administration my taxes haven't gone up. They will, though, as of next year. And the year after. Ad infinitum. In case you haven't been paying attention, the new big thing is a Value Added Tax on every phase of production. Not to mention the upcoming increase in everyone's taxes when the so called Bush Tax Cuts expire at the end of this year. Every, and I mean every, forecast is that Obamacare is going to be a budget buster. Caterpillar is projecting a $100 Million increase in health care costs for the first year alone. So, re ask your question in a year and I'll be able to answer it. Oh, BTW, since I live in MA where we have the prototype of Obamacare, I can tell you that in the last year the legislature increased the sales tax from 5% to 6.25%. Plus they added it to alcohol sales, which already had an excise tax on them. Oh, since I smoke cigars, the tax on that went up to pay for SCHIP, which is a program to provide "free" health care to children. So, that's three tax increases right there, all related to health care.
