Ernest Tubb

February 9 marks the 96th anniversary of the birth of the “Texas Troubadour” in Crisp, Texas. His career spanned four decades and he had a number of major hits, despite having a limited vocal range. Or maybe because of it. Either way, his music still influences country singers to this day. Tubb also had terrific musicians to back him, with good instrumentals to go with his unique voice.

Enough babbling from me, here are few ET hits for you dining and dancing pleasure.

Elvis Presley, didn’t want to do a cover of this song because he didn’t think he could do it justice.

My personal favorite,

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.

  1. He was a good 'un, all right; his guitar player, Billy Byrd, was so good that one of Gibson's guitars (the Byrdland) is named after him and Hank Garland. If you want to hear one of ET's musical children, check out Junior Brown, one of whose songs is titled My Baby Don't Dance To Nothin' But Ernest Tubb.
