Northeast Blogger Shoot AAR

Lot’s of spent brass and shotgun hulls on the ground at the range for the Northeast Blogger Shoot. I’m also spent, as in exhausted after a day of shooting, shooting the bull, renewing acquaintances, and meeting new friends.

First, a big Thank You to our host and hostess. They were incredibly gracious inviting a gang of raving gun nuts to shoot at their range. I won’t name them since they prefer to be anonymous, but I appreciate their hospitality and look forward to seeing them again. Next time I’ll bring more and better cigars.

Thanks also to JayG for being the ringmaster of ceremonies for this circus. New pictures of Jay will appear on his and other blogs. Suffice it to say that he outdid last year’s performance.

Thanks also to Jeff for sighting in my 10/22. Much appreciated.

A few observations. First, before anyone faints and then calls Martha Coakley, the range we used is NOT in Massachusetts. Everything we did and every implement we used is completely legal in the state in which we engaged in the day’s activities. That includes bringing the weapons across state lines. So there.

In addition to the Four Rules we really only had two. No more than four people on the line at any one time, and when the whistle blows, stop shooting. Despite that, there were no calamities, no one went crazy shooting, everyone behaved like an adult. We also managed to fire some fully automatic weapons without anything happening that wasn’t supposed to happen.

Lissa was far less reticent and far more eager to shoot this year. She was very fond of my Ruger 10/22 and JayG or Borepatch got a picture of her holding it with an ear to ear smile on her face. Her smile made me smile because she was having such a great time. She’s now inspired to get her License to Carry and I’m sure that next year she’ll have some firearms of her own to bring. Oh, and she brought cookies, lots and lots of delicious cookies.

Borepatch’s Son #2 was with us and he took a liking to my carbine length “Tanker” SKS, my SMLE No1. MkII, and my Smith & Wesson Model 18. After some basic instruction, he was firing all three pretty well. Again, a large smile was to be seen as the various target items jumped around the range as he hit them with the various weapons. Borepatch, you’ve got a nice young man there. Good parenting shows.
Son #2 also pitched in to clean a couple of my Milsurps which use corrosive ammuntion.

No doubt I had a huge smile on my face as I fired another shooter’s Uzi. A real one, not one of those semi auto long barreled ones. Almost as wide was my grin whilst firing a Walther MPL.

JayG does a better job detailing the festivities, with many pictures, so go read his account. He even used the same post title as I did. Northeast Blogger Shoot AAR and Blogger Shoot AAR 12,000 Words

I can’t top his post, so go read.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.

  1. TOTWTYTR, thanks for letting him shoot them, especially the SKS. It was fun to see him go back, and back, and back again for that one. Bit by the bug, that one is – and I'm about please as punch about that. Not sure how much "cleaning" he did, but he's used a bore snake now, and we had a bit of a discussion on the drive back about corrosive ammo. Thanks!

  2. I think Ted's got two choices.Get an SKS, or get Son #2 in a 7.62X39mm detox program!Man what a great day!

  3. He did seem to have an affinity for that SKS. It's a fun little rifle to shoot. Next time I'll have to drag out the full length one with bayonet and bring it along.

  4. Hey, thanks again for letting me shoot your rifles. I had a great time and I was very glad to meet you. Terence

  5. It was a pleasure to meet you as well. We all had a great time, got to shoot other people's weapons, swap lies, and eat delicious cookies baked by Lissa. What could be better? 🙂
