Fund Raising Ur Doin’ It Rong

I received a mail solicitation from an overnight camp I attended many years ago. To get the snark from AD, JB On the Rocks, Rogue Medic and any other friends, YES, we had electricity and NO Benjamin Franklin was not my counselor. I don’t expect any from Mule Breath, because I have it on good authority that Robert E. Lee was HIS counselor.

Anyway, it was a standard begoletter about needy campers who needed help with affording the cost of a month of camp. Which, considering how much I detested the place, I’d be doing them a favor keeping them home.

That aside, what really annoyed me was this. They spelled my name incorrectly. If they could go to the trouble to hunt me down to ask for a donation, they could at least get my frigging name right. I mean not even close. They had two letters right, but that’s not really good since my name is a bit longer. If you are going to hit people up for a donation, at least try to get their name spelled correctly.

Amateurs.

I'm a retired paramedic who formerly worked in a largish city in the Northeast corner of the U.S. In my post EMS life I provide Quality Improvement instruction and consulting under contract. I haven't really retired, I just don't work nights, holidays, or weekends.  I escaped the Northeast a couple of years ago and now live in Texas.  I'm more than just a little opinionated, but that comes with having been around the block more than once. You can email me at EMSArtifact@gmail.com After living most of my life (so far) in the northeast my lovely wife and I have moved to central Texas because we weren't comfortable in the northeast any longer. Life is full of twists and turns.

  1. I don’t expect any from Mule Breath, because I have it on good authority that Robert E. Lee was HIS counselor~~Actually it was Jefferson Davis, but your point is taken.

  2. Don’t you hate that? I have the same problem with my last name – mostly with pronunciation. I have had more people ask me if I am of middle eastern descent because of the way they slam it. I’m not offended most of the time, but I am amused…

  3. First time I’ve heard the siege of Boston referred to as an overnight camp. And not only did they spell your name wrong, they missed the anniversary date by a full week.

  4. PJ, very funny. OK, I’m lying. MB, thanks for the correction. Walt, been a problem with my real name my whole live, never mind my blog name. AD, Hardee har, har.

  5. Which of the letters of TOTWTYTR did they get right? That is one of the problems of trying to dig up those old records from before the use of the alphabet. Not that i’m that much younger than you, but you did volunteer for this abusw. I would feel bad if I didn’t contribute. :-)My high school keeps asking me for money. I did not like them then. The dementia hasn’t clouded those memories.
