If we believe the Obama Administration the problems that Mexico is facing with well armed drug cartels are due to the easy availability of weapons from the US. If we had tighter gun control, then the problems would cease in Mexico. Or something.
Drug cartels’ new weaponry means war tells us that this is not the complete story. While still trying to maintain the Obama party line about the US being the problem also reveals that many weapons come from Central America. Which interestingly is also where a lot of the drugs coming into the US come from. I detect a possible pattern here.
Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semiauto- matic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
Time to change the focus, I think.
U.S. law enforcement officials say they detected the smuggling of grenades and other military-grade equipment into Mexico about a year and a half ago, and observed a sharp uptick in the use of the weapons about six months ago.
Wait! I thought that this had eluded the US and Mexican monitors. Where is this stuff coming from? Hand grenades are not readily available to civilians in the US. Nor are rocket propelled grenades, fully automatic weapons, or light anti tank weapons.
Where does this stuff come from? Not from evil gun shows, not from legitimate gun dealers in any state. All of those items are heavily regulated in this country and only available to the military.
The enhanced weaponry represents a wide sampling from the international arms bazaar, with grenades and launchers produced by U.S., South Korean, Israeli, Spanish or former Soviet bloc manufacturers. Many had been sold legally to governments, including Mexico’s, and then were diverted onto the black market. Some may be sold directly to the traffickers by corrupt elements of national armies, authorities and experts say.
I think we have an answer here. Corrupt members of some militaries, including Mexico’s seem to be selling weapons meant to combat the drug cartels to those very same cartels. Not the first time that this has happened and certainly not the last. To point out the glaringly obvious, this is criminal activity. It should be investigated and the perpetrators caught, tried, and punished.
How many weapons have been smuggled into Mexico from Central America is not known, and the military-grade munitions are still a small fraction of the larger arsenal in the hands of narcotics traffickers. Mexican officials continue to push Washington to stem the well-documented flow of conventional weapons from the United States, as Congress holds hearings on the role those smuggled guns play in arming Mexican drug cartels.
Well documented by who? Has anyone on either side of the border produced a weapon with a serial number? Has anyone done a trace on said serial number to see who it was sold by and sold to? The Democrats claim that they need to be able to use ATF trace data to solve crimes. If the data is that reliable, then surely it’s a simple matter of finding out who the gun was legally sold to, tracking them down and asking them what happened to the gun. I see it on Law and Order all the time, so it must be true.
On the other hand, maybe this is just an excuse to impose more strict gun control here in the US. “Common Sense” gun control as the anti civil rights forces like to say.
Just remember, gun control is not about guns. It’s not about crime. It’s about control. Remember also that the Chief of Staff to the President is not only a staunch enemy of civil rights, he has said on the record that a crisis should never go to waste. As usual, the Lame Stream Media is blindly following the lead of the liberal establishment. Once again we are being told only the parts of the story that fit a particular point of view and a specific narrative. Once again the politicians are lying to us and the legacy media is assisting them.
I can’t see any reason to trust either of them. Vote with you dollars to let the lying media know that you’re not buying the story. Vote with you ballots to tell the lying politicians the same.
