One of which is a book I should read. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. According to this article in the Wall Street Journal I’m a virgin.
There seems to be a lot more interest in Rand’s ideas given the political atmosphere and the economic situation we are in now.
It’s on my list.
Also, on my list is The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein. Recently re-released, it is far more complex a story than it would seem. It touches on a lot of themes that too are relevant in today’s world. Like just about all things Heinlein, this will be a re-read for me. I’ve read it several times, but you can’t read most Heinlein books too many times.
While you’re reading, get a copy of Starship Troopers. A lot of political philosophy mixed in with a good science fiction story. Which you can say about a lot of Heinlein. If you’ve only seen the rather crappy movies, you owe it to yourself to read the book.
I read “Atlas Shrugged” when I was a freshman in college. I didn’t get it then, but I do now. And while I’ve never been much of a Heinlein fan, I’ve heard good things about both books.
I read “AS” for the first time just about a month ago. It’s very weird- you can’t tell if you’re remembering the book or watching current news…
i’ve just finished reading “Atlas Shrugged” … seems like a script that govts around the world are following – unfortunately … (e.g. http://jigsawsthoughts.blogspot.com/2009/02/say-what.html)Read some of Heinlein but not those two .. so they’re on my list!
