It seems that la Clinton has indeed tossed in the proverbial towel and endorsed Mr. Obama. Of course we don’t know what back room machinations might be going on and the nominee won’t be officially named until the DNC in Denver. Don’t count Hillary Clinton out just yet. If it should happen that a lot of negative stories about the presumptive nominee should leak out during the Summer months, I’m confident that she oh so reluctantly would, in the best interests of the party and the nation, accept the nomination.
That aside, it seems that the Democrats have decided on their new narrative for the general election. McCain=Bush3. I’d like to wish them luck with that as McCain has opposed most of the things that the Bush Administration has tried to do. The big exception to that of course are the battles in the Iraqi Campaign. I use that term purposely as it is important to keep in mind that there is a larger war afoot and that Iraqi and Afghanistan are Campaigns, not wars in and of themselves. The US and allies currently have operations ongoing in the Phillipines, the Horn of Africa, and a lot of other places we aren’t hearing about and hopefully won’t hear about in the Lame Stream Media for year.
Back to McCain. Although the Obama campaign might think that it is an effective strategy to paint him as “McBush” I just don’t think it’s going to fly. For most of the Bush Presidency McCain has been a darling of the LSM and the left because he was a maverick who would stand up against Bush. Remember, it was McCain who early on in the Battle for Iraq was a critic of the tactics and troop numbers being employed. McCain was a constant critic of Donald Rumsfeld and early on asked for his removal. Hardly the actions of a Bush toady.
The major issues where McCain has sided with President Bush are amnesty for Illegal Aliens and campaign finance reform. Both of those are liberal issues where McCain agreed with the liberal view far more than he agreed with the conservative view.
Let’s not forget the deal he struck on judicial appointments, the so called “Gang of 14”. Not exactly designed to please the President.
McCain is going to run a good, solid, issues based campaign. If Obama doesn’t, he’s not only going to lose, he’s going to look silly doing it. Running against the Iraqi Campaign is not likely to be a winning strategy as it seems that the surge has worked to give the Iraqi military, police, and government enough time to become effective agents in running the country.
A last bit of advice for my liberal readers. Using insulting names is a sign that you don’t have a serious argument. It makes you look silly and small minded. Try to debate issues without using insulting names, OK?
