You may have Juneteenth, but we have Bunker Hill Day. Celebrated only in one county in Massachusetts. By coincidence that is not only the county where said battle took place, but also is where the State Capitol is. All state employees who work within said county get a paid holiday, those that work elsewhere in the Commonwealth don’t get it.
In another amazing coincidence, we also have “Evacuation Day”, which commemorates the evacuation of Boston by the British during the Revolution. Wouldn’t you know that fate would have it that this holiday is celebrated on March 17? In the rest of the country, this is known as St. Patrick’s Day, but in Suffolk County, it’s known as Evacuation Day.
Thus those who work or reside within the confines of Suffolk County get two more holidays than the rest of the Commonwealth.
A large Irish community with a paid day off that coincides with St. Patrick’s Day? Clearly a conspiracy. 🙂
